“Reducing Delays of Breast Cancer Care Using an Innovative Digital Health Platform” - published in the American Journal of Accountable Care

At XpediteMD, we're committed to advancing digital health solutions that accelerate patient care. A compelling recent study published in The American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) underscores how the right technology can drastically reduce delays in life-saving breast cancer treatment.

A Proven Solution to a Life-Threatening Problem

Delays in initiating breast cancer treatment can lead to poorer outcomes and increased patient anxiety. Recognizing this challenge, a large healthcare system in Nevada implemented a novel digital platform aimed at shortening the time between diagnosis and treatment—particularly for Medicare Advantage patients.

The platform integrated critical care processes, including diagnostic follow-up, treatment coordination, and prior authorization. Over the course of the study, more than 550 patients with abnormal mammogram results were enrolled. Among them, 75 were diagnosed with breast cancer or high-risk findings and subsequently began treatment.

Results That Matter

The outcomes were remarkable:

  • Average time to treatment dropped from 74 days to just 32 days.
  • Patients who did not choose to delay care started treatment in just 28.8 days, well within the recommended window.

This reduction is not only statistically significant—it’s clinically meaningful. Accelerating the time to treatment can make the difference between early-stage and advanced-stage cancer management.

What This Means for Digital Health

This initiative demonstrates how digital health platforms—like those integrated into XpediteMD’s suite of solutions—can streamline care pathways, improve patient outcomes, and reduce administrative barriers such as prior authorization delays. The success of this program reinforces our mission to bridge the gap between diagnosis and treatment using intelligent, intuitive technology.
